Deadlines and renewals

Notice deadline calculator

A notice deadline is the last day to send a termination or non-renewal notice before a contract renews. Enter the date the term ends, the notice period and, optionally, a safety buffer and a country calendar. The calculator counts back, moves the date earlier when it lands on a weekend or public holiday, and shows every step.

General information, not legal advice. Check the result against your contract and the law that applies to it.

When to use it

Use it when a contract runs for a fixed term with a notice period, such as a lease, a software subscription or a service agreement, and you need to know by when you must act.

How to get a reliable answer

  1. Step 1

Take the figures from the contract

Use the dates, periods and amounts the signed contract states, not a summary or an old spreadsheet.

  2. Step 2

    Check the working

Every result shows its steps, its assumptions and the data it used, so you can see where each number comes from.

  3. Step 3

    Keep it on the contract

In Pactinel the same calculation runs for every contract you hold and reminds the owner in time.

Frequently asked questions

Does the deadline move for weekends and public holidays?

Only if you choose a country calendar. The deadline then moves to the previous business day, which is the safe side. Your contract or the law that applies to it may count differently.

Does the deadline mean the day I send the notice or the day it arrives?

That depends on the notice clause. Many clauses count from receipt, so use the safety buffer to leave time for delivery, and keep proof of how and when you sent it.
