Deadlines and renewals

Auto-renewal checker

An auto-renewal clause extends a contract for another term unless one party gives notice before a deadline. Enter when the current term ends, how long each renewal runs and the notice period. The checker shows whether the contract renews, the last day to give notice, the days left and, if that day is missed, when the next term ends.

When to use it

Use it for any contract that extends itself unless someone objects: subscriptions, maintenance and support, leases and supply agreements.

How to get a reliable answer

  1. Step 1

Take the figures from the contract

Use the dates, periods and amounts the signed contract states, not a summary or an old spreadsheet.

  2. Step 2

    Check the working

Every result shows its steps, its assumptions and the data it used, so you can see where each number comes from.

  3. Step 3

    Keep it on the contract

In Pactinel the same calculation runs for every contract you hold and reminds the owner in time.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I miss the notice deadline?

The contract usually renews for another term on the same terms. The checker shows when that next term ends, which is when your next chance to leave comes.

Can an automatic renewal be challenged?

Some countries limit automatic renewal, mostly for consumer contracts. Between businesses the clause is usually applied as written, so treat the deadline as binding unless your adviser tells you otherwise.
