AI principles

The six principles that govern how Pactinel uses AI on contract data: no training on customer data, cited and verified output, no legal advice, minimal data, an off switch, and named subprocessors.

Pactinel uses AI to read contracts and propose data. This page sets out the principles we hold ourselves to. The detailed contractual terms are in the AI terms.

PrincipleIn practice
Customer data never trains a modelNo training, fine-tuning or reuse for another purpose
Cited and verifiedEvery extracted field shows page, highlighted text and confidence; people verify critical fields
No legal adviceResults are aids to be verified, not legal opinions
Minimal dataOnly relevant pages are sent; unnecessary personal data is masked first
You can turn it offAI is a workspace setting
Named subprocessorsThe AI subprocessor and its processing country are published

1. Customer data never trains any model

Your documents and the data extracted from them are used only to provide the service to you. They are not used to train or fine-tune any model, by us or by an AI provider, and they are not reused for any other purpose.

2. AI output is cited and checked by a person

The AI proposes; a person confirms. Each extracted field shows the page, the highlighted source text and a confidence value. Fields below your workspace's confidence threshold go to the front of a verification queue, and unverified fields are shown as drafts. The critical fields of a contract, such as end date, renewal type, notice period and value, must be verified before the contract becomes active.

Pactinel extracts, calculates, warns and drafts. It is not a lawyer, and nothing it produces is legal advice. Each calculation screen and each notice draft says that you must verify the result against the contract and the applicable law.

4. Data sent to AI is minimized

Before any text leaves our servers, we replace emails, phone numbers, bank account numbers, national identifiers and other personal data that is not needed with placeholders. Only the pages relevant to the task are sent. Contract content and AI prompts and responses are not written to our logs.

5. You can turn AI off

A workspace can turn AI off entirely. Pactinel then works with manual entry, spreadsheet import and rules. You also set the confidence threshold for your workspace.

6. The AI subprocessor is named

The AI subprocessor and the country where it processes data are listed on the subprocessors page. As of October 2026 the provider that will process customer documents has not been named there, because it has not yet been finalized; we will publish its name and country, and give notice of the change, before any customer document is processed. During development we use a different AI platform only with non-customer data such as public or anonymized contracts. Customer documents are processed only by the provider listed for that purpose, under terms that do not allow it to keep or train on the data.

Models and quality

The model, its routing and the prompts are chosen and changed by Pactinel as platform settings, not by individual customers. Each change is tested against a set of anonymized reference contracts before release, and a drop in quality blocks the release. We measure precision on critical date fields and require every extracted value to carry its source citation. AI can still be wrong, which is why a person verifies.

Limits and cost controls

Plans include a monthly number of AI pages. Work pauses with a clear message when a quota is used up, and never silently. If the AI service is unavailable, documents wait in a queue and the product shows an honest "extraction delayed" state.

Frequently asked questions

Does Pactinel train AI models on my contracts?

No. Customer data never trains any model, ours or a provider's, and is not reused for any other purpose.

Can I turn AI off?

Yes. A workspace can turn AI off entirely. The product then works with manual entry and rules.

Does Pactinel give legal advice?

No. Pactinel extracts, calculates, warns and drafts. You must verify the results, and they are not legal advice.
